The Louisiana Department of Economic Development has retained the Louisiana Music Export Office as a consultant to launch a new incentive program designed to boost the state's recording industry.
The Louisiana Sound Recording Investor Tax Credit became law on Jan. 1, 2006, in part due to the intensive lobbying of LMEO Director Scott Aiges. The credit provides cash back to record companies that invest in sound recordings, with rebates equal to 10-20% of what they spend in Louisiana on production. A similar tax incentive for film boosted movie production from $20 million in 2002 to more than $250 million in 2005.
The LMEO has been charged with developing marketing materials and coordinating the public launch of this new incentive for the Louisiana music industry. For more information, contact us. Or, click this link to get the full details.
The Louisiana Music Export Office collaborated with Putumayo World Music, White Oak Productions and Home Team Productions to stage the first post-Katrina music event in New Orleans.
“Down By the Riverside: A Concert of Thanksgiving“ drew more than 5,000 people to Woldenberg Riverfront Park on Nov. 26, 2005. Performers included Kermit Ruffins, Jon Cleary, Wanda Rouzan, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, the Hot 8 Brass Band and more.
The Louisiana Music Export Office's participation included various aspects of event production, including talent, sponsorships and budgeting. The free concert yielded net proceeds of $10,000, which was donated to two New Orleans charities for post-hurricane musicians' relief.
